Shower Wallboards: Product Support and Installation

Our Shower and Tub Wallboard system is an innovative composite paneling product that is tailored to the bathroom markets. It is technically a laminate, comprised of multiple layers of engineered thermoplastic, a printed image, and a lightweight plastic 3/16" backing, all bonded with a high-strength adhesive. The materials used in our wallboard manufacture have been UV stabilized and resist discoloration and staining. The image is protected by the substantial clear thermoplastic layers, which can be renewed and shined if the material is scratched.

Shower Wallboard sizes
Decorplastics' Wallboards are well-suited for bathroom wet-wall applications, such as tub and shower walls, splashes, skirts, trims, shampoo and soap shelves, cubbies and more. Unlike tile grout and natural stone, our paneling won't mold or mildew and is easy to clean. Decorplastics' wallboards are also an excellent choice for other projects, such as wall-cladding, wainscoting, window sills, etc. Our shower wallboard system has passed commercial fire testing and is suitable for commercial work as well. the paneling will perform well in applications demanding light weight with a high-end look. One of the most common uses for paneling is RV's, manufactured homes, yachts, planes, lobbies and more.
Gloss Poly finish is made using a solid sheet of thick clear polymer material. It is a high gloss, our most pristine finish. This finish ships with a protective cover which is removed during installation.
Satin Hardcoat is a slightly less glossy finish, with an elegant sheen. This finish incorporates a thinner poly cover layer that has a hard coating for superior scratch resistance. This is the most install-friendly material, and can be cut with just a utility knife.
Recommended silicone: XtraBond Silicone 150T. For sealing all joints of  materials. Also suitable for tile, marble, fiberglas, and glass.
Recommended Adhesive: Dow Corning CWS or XtraBond 9500 polyurethane adhesive, white. XB9500: The best adhesive for adhering  to sheetrock, masonite, cement board, or to other materials.

Bending the panel: You can bend your own panel simply by using a router with a V-Blade to score the back of the panel about 3/4 of the way through the back/pvc backerboard. Then with a simple heat wire attached to a piece of plywood the back of the scored panel, it is heated and bent. Some actually score the back as described above, then with a heat gun or a hair dryer, heat the back and bend the panel...creating as needed bends.

Sheetrock or Firring Strips? We would recommend using sheetrock or another firm backing system. However, if you wish to proceed with installing wallboards over a firring strips, We would suggest these strip a run on a horizontal plane, with at least 8" centers. But a rule of thumb - you are only as good and as solid as your substrate.

Dealing with the scratchess? In case of scratches, you could use a very high grit liquid polishing compound (example: Supergrit ) You would use sanding gel (3000 or 5000) to take the scratch out and the 10000 to produce high gloss. Then maybe use a high gloss non-abrasive car polish if necessary. This procedure is mostly for gloss as the satin doesn’t scratch as much. To handle scratches on satin hardcoat – you could use the 3000 to knock the scratch down so it will not be very noticeable.

Any quality shower base works well with wallboard panels. We currently don’t offer any, as those can easily purchased either online or locally at a number of plumbing supply stores. However, we do offer a matter finish panel that works very well as a shower floor. This is accomplished by prepping the shower floor as if you are going to install ceramic tile. The matte finish floor material is a slightly textured panel, and works very well.
